Doggone Progress
You Need To Know About These Folks
These people are out there doing amazing things. Although I don't have time to vet every single thing they are saying and doing at all times so who knows maybe they are going to come out with a horrifying scandal tomorrow and I'm going to have to rescind my recommendation, but for now they are killin' it and you should check out their work.

Shanspeare
Shanspeare is a YouTuber who does deep dives into the intricate worlds of literature and culture, with a witty perspective that makes even the most complex topics accessible and engaging which is something I try to learn from. They are a huge inspiration to me in their blending of humor with in-depth analysis of complex academic topics. Their ability to make learning both deeply insightful and genuinely fun and their openness about living with an anxiety disorder resonates with me, as I don't shy away from discussing my own experiences with my health. Devon Price, Ph. D.
Devon Price, Ph.D., is my favorite person in social psychology today, illuminating the complexities of human behavior with scholarly depth and a compassionate approach. Their groundbreaking work, especially in the areas of neurodiversity and societal behavior norms, is not just academically profound but also deeply relevant day-to-day life. Not only has their work informed a lot of the in-depth analysis I've done for my work but also their approachable books have been instrumental in helping me get my family to understand my neurodiversity so they have truly shaped my life for the better. Physicians for Patient Protection
PPP's values strongly align with mine after a lifetime of trauma through the healthcare system. Their dedication to combating 'midlevel creep' and ensuring physician-led care is not just super important for maintaining healthcare standards, but it also validates my own experiences and concerns. This organization champions the need for qualified, extensively trained MDs and DOs as opposed to NPs, PAs, midwifes, chiropractors or other unqualified holistic practitioners, a cause I am deeply passionate about due to what I've been through. Sunn m'Cheaux
Sunn m'Cheaux is someone you really need to check out on YouTube, offering a wise and empathetic perspective on complex issues like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His ability to critically examine Zionist perspectives while maintaining respect for the Israeli people really sets him apart. If you want to be an informed global citizen you will get a lot out of his content. He is also the first instructor of Gullah at Harvard which is super cool and he brings a deep understanding of racial and cultural dynamics to his discussions. His approach is not super intelligent but also deeply humane, making his channel a must-visit for anyone interested in nuanced and progressive discourse on race and other social issues. Affirmation Babe (Ashley Diana)
Ashley Diana, the visionary behind Affirmation Babe, brings a refreshingly real twist to the world of affirmations. Her 'explicit affirmations' cut through the fluff of toxic positivity, offering powerful, swear-word-laden truths that resonate deeply with those of us who prefer our inspiration served with a side of realism. Her work was one of the things that made me feel like I could bring my dream of a blend of academic rigor and approachability to light. As a pessimist I never gave mindfulness a chance until I saw her stuff and it opened the door to a lot of healing for me. Check Out Her Work.
Sacrilegious Discourse
Sacrilegious Discourse is an anonymous atheist husband-and-wife podcast that has reshaped my perspective on academic and approachable discourse, and ultimately what inspired me to take the plunge in to launching my blog. The podcast consists of the couple read reading through the Christian bible start to finish while giving their raw and unfiltered commentary--laced with humor and profanity--which mirrors the authentic, candid style I was dreaming of in my own blog. They're really relatable for anyone living in a sea of conservative people who feels like a lonely progressive island. Check Out Their Work.
Mr. Beat
Mr. Beat's (not to be confused with Mr. Beast) YouTube channel is a perfect complement to the critical and inquisitive spirit of my blog. His dedication to challenging misinformation and critically examining other creators' content mirrors my commitment to intellectual rigor and factual accuracy. His engaging approach to education, especially in his real-time video analyses, is a prime example of effective critical thinking in action. His channel not only informs but also empowers you to figure out truth in a complex information landscape. There's a concerning amount of rewriting of history happening these days and he is doing great work combating this. His content is a great resource for making up for what you missed in school. He does a pretty good job trying not to take political sides yet he is still very socially sensitive and respectful of everyone's humanity. Check Out His Work.
Adrian Bliss
Adrian Bliss on YouTube brilliantly showcases the absurdities of our world with a unique dry absurdist humor that's right up my alley. His distinct style, marked by an never-ending array of quirky costumes, a monotone voice, and frequent fourth-wall breaks, transforms everyday observations into a canvas of comedy. What truly sets his videos apart are the subtle yet impactful progressive lines sprinkled throughout, adding depth and relevance to his humor. His content is a delightful blend of satire and social commentary, making it a perfect fit for the tone and approach of my blog. If you find yourself enjoying what I have to offer you will love him as well because he is essentially doing what I plan to do on my blog except through comedic shorts instead of long ass sociological manifestos. The American Civil Liberties Union
The ACLU, with its 100+ year long history of defending civil liberties, perfectly represents the spirit socially conscious values that I champion on my blog. Their relentless pursuit of justice across a spectrum of critical issues — from Capital Punishment, Civil Liberties, Criminal Law Reform, Disability Rights, Free Speech, HIV, Human Rights, Immigrants' Rights, Juvenile Justice, LGBT+ Rights, National Security, Prisoners' Rights, Privacy & Technology, Racial Justice, Reproductive Freedom, Smart Justice, Voting Rights, to Women's Rights — resonates with my commitment to informed, progressive activism. Naked Pastor
The NakedPastor, aka David Hayward, is an artist and critic whose work boldly challenges Christianity. Through his razor-sharp art and cartoons, he makes people question and deconstruct traditional religious narratives, advocating for spiritual freedom, and especially LGBT+ rights. I have read he claims to be the first to use the word 'deconstruction' in relation to leaving the faith in 2008 but I haven't yet had time to investigate if that's true. I thought I'd include that either way so you can get a sense of what he's about. I grew up in a very toxic Christian environment in the 90s and early 2000s, and am now an agnostic-atheist and strong anti-theist. The concept of deconstruction is really important to me so you'll be seeing a lot of religious skepticism on this blog. Check Out His Work.
